Jerome Calvin Crane was born in Chicago Illinois on October 18, 1967 to Jerry Crane Sr. and Ruby J. Crane. He was a well noted academic student and football player at Chicago Mendel Catholic High School. J. C. was nationally recruited as a student/athlete following his senior year, and attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Upon graduating, from Drake University in May of 1989 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication, he accepted a tryout with the Dallas Cowboys after a mini-camp with the Los Angeles Raiders did not lead to a contract.
J. C. is the Founder/Executive Vice President of Crane Enterprises Inc. and Director of the company’s Commit 2 Action Program. This program is a professional counseling and motivational seminar service that promotes Diversity Education and Post-Secondary Guidance within a spiritual foundation. His professional accomplishments include; creating the Triton College Diversity Learning Center, developing an International Multicultural Training Program, and publishing the Commit 2 Action Post Secondary Preparation Guide. J. C. has written several articles (additional article), presented motivational seminars, and coordinated educational workshops regarding; athletics, urban gang violence, multicultural diversity, and post-secondary education. In addition, he has been an excellent motivator, counselor, and mentor for young athletes, at risk youth, and various adult populations.
He has served as Director of Admission for The National University of Health Sciences (IL) and Mount Marty College (SD). He has been employed as an Associate Director of Admissions for Kentucky Wesleyan College (KY), and Valparaiso University (IN). He has held the title of Assistant Director of Admissions for The University of Notre Dame (IN), and Midwestern University (IL). J. C. has been an active member of professional and community organizations. He was the inaugural Chairman for the Owensboro Multi-racial Advocacy Group. He has been a member of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC) since 1991, and was selected to be a member of the NACAC Government Relations Committee in 2000. He has served as Chairman for the Kentucky Association of Secondary College and Admissions Counselors (KASCAC) Human Relations Committee, and Conference First Timer’s Reception. He was also a member of the 1999 KASCAC Annual Conference Planning Committee. He has served as Faculty for the 1998 and 1999 NACAC Workshop for Counselors of Color and the 1995 Illinois Association of College Admissions Counselors (IACAC) Summer Institute. Also, he has served as a member of the Illinois Association of College Admissions Counselors IACAC Human Relations Committee from 1994-1996, and the 1996 IACAC Conference Planning Committee.
In conclusion, J. C. is a devoted Christian and is a member of New Birth Baptist Church in Inkster, MI. He is currently in the midst of writing his first book, “Building an Intercultural Community.”
